Visitation

The Floyd County Jail is located at 311 Hauss Square in New Albany, Indiana. It houses pre-trial detainees, county-sentenced inmates, as well as state and federal offenders. The staff at the jail is responsible for the care, custody, and control of detainees and inmates. In addition to these responsibilities, the Floyd County Jail also manages transportation, court services, and building security. The jail has an automated information system for friends and family to call and obtain information about an inmate. To access this information system, please call 812-948-5406.

Bond Information

The Floyd County Jail and the Floyd County Clerk’s Office accept court cash bond payments. The Floyd County Jail will only accept these payments after business hours, on weekends, and during holidays when the Clerk’s Office is closed.

Please Note:
- The Floyd County Clerk’s Office and the Floyd County Jail will only accept the full bond amount.
- The Floyd County Jail accepts only exact cash payments and cannot provide change. Please note that coins will not be accepted.
- A Special Death Benefit Bond Fee of $5.00 will be charged for each criminal case.
- A valid government-issued ID is required from the person making the payment or designated as the payee.
- The payee must provide all required information.

Types of Bonds:

Court Cash Bond

10% of the total bond is required and can be paid in the Floyd County Clerk’s Office during normal business hours. After hours, it can be paid in the Floyd County Jail Front Lobby.

Full Cash Bond

100% of the total bond is required and can be paid in the Floyd County Clerk’s Office during normal business hours. After hours, it can be paid in the Floyd County Jail Front Lobby.

Surety

10% of the total bond is paid to a bonding company. The Floyd County Jail maintains a list of approved bond agencies.

Commissary Payments

Inmate commissary accounts are maintained according to the rules and regulations of the Floyd County Jail. To deposit money into an inmate's account, you may use one of the following methods:

Online

Kiosk

The kiosk in the Floyd County Jail Front Lobby may be used 24/7 to deposit money into any inmate’s commissary account. The machine accepts both cash and cards. A service fee will be applied.

US Mail

Money orders or cashier’s checks can be sent by mail for an inmate at the Floyd County Jail. The amount must not exceed $100.00. Please send money orders or cashier’s checks to the following address: 311 Hauss Square New Albany, IN 47150.

Inmate Mail

All incoming mail (except for legal or privileged mail) is sent to an offsite Digital Mail Center, where it is scanned and screened by staff for approval before being forwarded to the inmate. If any inmate mail is withheld, the inmate will be notified along with the reason for the withholding. To send mail to an inmate, please use the Regular Inmate Mail address provided below.

In accordance with jail policies, inmates are not allowed to receive the following types of material:
- Lewd or graphic content
- Newspapers or magazine articles
- Books
- Blank paper
- Gang-related materials
- Staples, paper clips, stickers, or any other items considered contraband or against the policies of the Floyd County Jail or the United States Postal Service.
- Mail sent from a third party or a website

Only legal/privileged mail from attorneys, courts, or other government entities will be accepted directly at the Floyd County Jail. Legal/Privileged mail should be addressed as indicated below for Legal Mail.

Inmate Property

Inmates are allowed to release their personal property seven days a week, outside of normal business hours (before 8:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m.). No property will be released during regular business hours. To pick up items, you must present a valid state-issued identification. Inmates have the right to refuse the release of any items in their property at their discretion, unless a court order states otherwise.

Please note: The Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) does not accept inmate property. Inmates transferred to IDOC will have the opportunity to designate two different individuals to pick up their property after their transfer. Once the inmate is transferred, our staff will attempt to contact the listed individuals and arrange for the inmate property to be picked up within 48 hours.

Visitation

All individuals and vehicles are subject to search while on the property of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

Visitation Rules: Anyone who violates the following rules may have their scheduled visits terminated or canceled, their visitation accounts suspended or banned, and may also face criminal charges if applicable.​

1.    Tank tops, tube tops, low-cut, cleavage, tight-fitting, short shorts, miniskirts, provocative, see-through, or clothing with holes.


2.    High heels, no shoes, and open-toe shoes are not permitted in the facility.


3.    Nudity, partial nudity, sexual acts, simulated sexual acts, or depiction thereof.


4.    Security threat group or gang activity, signage, symbols, or other representation of any such group.


5.    Any illegal activity, conspiracy to commit an illegal act, or depiction thereof.


6.    Showing of recording electronic devices, to include tablets, cell phones, or computers during a visit.


7.    Minors unaccompanied by a parent or guardian.


8.    Loud talking or any type of disruptive behavior.


9.    Defacing or damaging the visitation terminal.


10. Persons appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.


11. Visitors talking to inmates who they are not scheduled to visit.


12. Victims/Suspects with a no contact order, injunction, or protective order attempting to visit an inmate who is named in the document. 


13. Victims/Suspects attempting to visit an inmate who is named as the victim/suspect in a criminal case.


14. Purses, bags, briefcases, cellular phones, cameras, other electronic devices, medication, food, drinks, etc. are strictly prohibited in all visitation areas.


15. Visitors will be required to stay seated at the visitation terminal. If the visitor leaves the terminal, the visit will be terminated.

On-Site Visitation

Each inmate at the Floyd County Jail is entitled to one free 30-minute visit per month, which must be conducted on-site. Free visits are scheduled based on availability and are only allowed on Saturdays and Sundays.

The visitation system will automatically email visitors to inform them of any cancellations or changes. Furthermore, if the inmate has already utilized their one free visit or if a visit is already scheduled, the visitation system will display a message indicating that the visit is not available.

When scheduling a visit, the family member or friend must be ready to provide the following information:

1. Inmate's legal name or name number
2. Visitor's official picture ID (such as a driver’s license or school ID for minors)
3. Visitor’s home address
4. Visitor’s telephone number
5. Visitor’s email address

All visitors must present a valid state-issued ID upon arrival at the facility for their scheduled visit. Visitors must arrive at least 15 minutes before the visit starts, as visits will begin promptly.

Video Visitation

Video Visitation takes place daily from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30p.m.

All visitors are required to schedule an appointment at least 24 hours in advance and must pay for each scheduled session before the visit takes place. Please note that all scheduled visits are non-refundable. The Floyd County Jail utilizes video visitation through Securus Technologies. Participation in video visitation is a privilege, not a right. Both the visitor and the inmate are expected to always conduct themselves appropriately during the video visit.

Floyd County Jail reserves the right to deny, cancel, or terminate a video visit before or during a session based on the conduct of the visitor and/or the inmate. Additionally, Floyd County Jail may restrict visitors from participating in any or all future uses of the video system.

All uses of the video visit system, except for attorney visitor accounts, are recorded and monitored by employees of Floyd County Jail. By using the video visitation system, you consent to all recordings and monitoring associated with it.

Additional Off-Site Visitation Rules - Violations of the rules below may result in visitors’ privileges being suspended indefinitely.

1. Registered Visitors are required to be in the video or present nearby. Other visitors are permitted to join during the visit.
2. An officer may request that the registered visitor appear in the visit at any time.
3. Failure to comply with this request will lead to termination of the visit.
4. Off-site visitors may not operate a vehicle during a visit.

Attorney Visitation

Attorneys are allowed to visit their inmate clients in person during regular business hours. When they arrive for their visit, attorneys must present both their state-issued identification and their state-issued bar card. The visits will occur in a designated attorney visitation room, ensuring private conversations between the attorney and the inmate. Additionally, attorneys have the option to conduct private visits with their clients through an attorney account for video visitation.

Video Conference & Hearings

The Floyd County Jail does not accept requests for video conferences or hearings, with the following exceptions: federal attorney visits, federal court proceedings, court orders, or arrangements made with the Programs Coordinator for treatment placements. If you qualify for one of these exceptions and wish to make a video conference request, please contact courtteam@fcsdin.net for availability and further instructions.

Clergy Visits

Inmates at Floyd County Jail are allowed one-on-one visits with approved clergy volunteers during designated times. To become an approved clergy volunteer, you must complete our application process and online orientation. All potential clergy volunteers are required to undergo a background check. After submitting your application, a Programs Supervisor will contact you regarding your approval status. Please note that Floyd County Jail reserves the right to terminate clergy volunteers at any time and for any reason.
