With spring and summer just around the corner and warmer weather on its way, our department wants to remind the community of some essential safety tips for the upcoming season.
Firstly, it’s crucial to keep your home and vehicles locked up at all times, even for short periods. While we recommend the use of home security systems and residential security cameras, simply locking your car and taking valuables inside can take away a quick opportunity for a theft.
It’s also important to be aware of home improvement scams. We advise against engaging with any salesman or contractor who shows up unsolicited.
Knowing your neighbors is a great tool, especially during the summer season when you’re traveling. A trusted neighbor who can keep an eye on your property can be incredibly helpful. If you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it.
Check all alarms and safety equipment, including smoke detectors, to ensure that everything is in working order.
Unfortunately, we tend to see an increase in injuries and fatalities related to the use of bikes, ATVs, and other recreational vehicles during this time of the year. Always wear a helmet and use seat belts if available when riding or operating these vehicles.
Pools become a popular way to cool down during hot Indiana days. However, it’s essential to have adult supervision at all times when children are around swimming areas. Do not rely on swimming aides to replace adult supervision. If you are a pool owner, be sure to have the required fencing and barriers needed to keep wandering children away from the area.
From everyone at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, we hope you enjoy your spring season! Be Safe!
